One of the hallmark services provided by CPAs is the preparation of
financial statements and issuance of an “independent accountants’
report” on them. Financial
statements can be either historical or projected.
Historical financial statements are like a snapshot and a movie of
an operation taken together. The balance sheet lists assets,
liabilities and equity at a certain hour, while
the income and cash flow statements provide a glimpse of operations
over a month, quarter or year. They are relied on for internal
management and external investing and
lending purposes.
